I’m going to be out of town during Halloween this year so I haven’t invested in any festive decorating (save for a lone pumpkin on my mantle). Halloween has always seemed to me like the holiday where you have to just embrace campiness. I mean there can’t possibly be an elegant way to decorate with bats and skeletons right? Well after seeing styleathome.com’s latest post on decorating for a Haute Hallows Eve I may have to reevaluate my stance. They’ve managed to make a chic Halloween dinner party a thing and I’m starting to really wish I were going to be around to celebrate this year. I especially love the simplicity of painting mini pumpkins to transform them into a more sophisticated table-top accessory. Another post from my most recent visit to Cape Cod. Jules Besch Stationers was formerly located in Wellfleet center, and now occupies a charming cottage-like space in Truro. The shop specializes in all kinds of paper goods including cards, notebooks, calendars and wrapping paper. On the day I visited the owner happened to be hosting his 18th annual afternoon tea which meant there were lots of delicious treats (and tea of course). There are so many beautiful and unique things to see at this store. Sharing some photos of the shop below.

So I’ve been a fan of Crate & Barrel’s little sister, CB2, for a while but I’ve never considered it a store where I could have completely outfit a home. While I love their modernist style, their collection as a whole often felt slightly too minimalist-industrial for my taste – the kind of place where I might shop a few items but wouldn’t be replicating their catalog layouts. Example below:

That’s all recently changed though. CB2 recently debuted their Kaleidoscope Collection, in collaboration with British fashion designer, Matthew Williamson, and it’s blowing my mind. The Kaleidoscope Collection, which Williamson describes the collection as “controlled bohemia”, adds the perfect punch of vintage style and SO much color the store’s signature modern aesthetic. I love to see a brand evolving in ways that enhance their collection without abandoning their trademark style. I’ve listed a few of my favorite pieces from the Kaleidoscope Collection below.

Visited the Atlantic Spice Co. shop in Truro, Massachusetts for the first time this past weekend. Somehow in over 20 years of visiting the outer cape, I had never made it to this gem. The shop sells every spice imaginable, along with loose-leaf teas, nuts, seeds, botanicals, essential oils, and much more – all at wholesale prices. I would have bought more but their products tend to be sold in pretty large quantities since they are a wholesale retailer. Their prices are really reasonable and they have a great selection. I highly recommend stopping by their store if you find yourself in Truro. And if you can’t make the trip, you can shop their inventory online at their website. Another project from the architects at Gensler, this time in Boston’s Fort Point area. General Electric Co. announced about a year ago that they would be relocating their headquarters from Fairfield, Connecticut to the Boston area. Gensler’s building designs were published this week, revealing that G.E’s new campus would be located at the former site of the Necco candy manufacturing facilities. The building will face the water, with direct access to Boston’s Harborwalk. Check out some of the renderings below.

Like all designers, typography holds a special place in my heart. And as I’ve mentioned on this blog before, I love a good infographic. Since first seeing it back in June of this year, I’ve found myself re-searching for this Fontsmith infographic on typography terms again and again. Home goods retailer, The Citzenry, sources products from artisans around the world. I recently discovered this brand and was so impressed by their mission to bring small-batch crafts to the online market and by the natural-yet-sophisticated aesthetic of their pieces. Each season The Citizenry reveals a new collection featuring goods from just one country’s craftsmen (this season’s is Ireland). While I am an avid HGTV viewer, it was not until recently that I first had the pleasure of watching Island Hunters. If you’re not familiar, it’s basically House Hunters but for people looking to purchase their own private islands. As someone who likes their TV programing to be aspirational, I was instantly addicted. Coincidentally, this week it was announced that a private island in Orleans, Massachusetts has become available to purchase for $12.5M. Sipson Island offers 25 private acres, located in Cape Cod’s Pleasant Bay. It’s location in an area of the Cape where most beachfront land is protected by the National Seashore makes Sipson Island’s listing a particularly rare and valuable opportunity.
